NYFW SS18 Street Style: Polka Dots — the Print of the Season
You and I can talk about New York Fashion Week endlessly, but I have to stop somewhere. So this post will be the last one in my NYFW SS18 series.
Honestly, this polka dot outfit was my favorite. I wore it to Leanne Marshall's show, which I couldn't get into, despite being invited. Read about it here. The show was overbooked and some of us watched it on the big screen at Skylight at Clarkson Square.
At first, my fashionista girlfriends and I were very disappointed with not being able to watch the show in person as we had planned. But being right outside the entrance actually helped us to see a lot of celebrities and well-known bloggers up close coming in and out the room.
I had a chance to meet my favorite New York–based blogger Courtney Quinn from ColorMeCourtney.com this way (and she is even more adorable in real life!).
A funny story about our meeting... it's very embarrassing, but I will tell you.
My girlfriends stopped Courtney to say, "hi" to her, and when I got to talk to her, I couldn't squeeze a word out. She asked me how I was twice. And I was just staring at her in an awkward silence. 🙈 As I regained my composure, I asked her how her puppy was doing, but inside my head, I was thinking, "Seriously, Anna, this is all you can come up with?" Well, in the end, I took a selfie with Court, and she wanted me to DM her so that she would know who I was.
But I was so mad at myself. I blame hunger, partially, because I didn't eat the whole day. The other reason was probably my lack of sleep. I was partying until 5 a.m. and had to wake up at 8 a.m. to attend my first show of the day. What would have happened to me if I saw Zayn? A stroke? 😱 (If you need a refresher on my special feelings for Zayn Malik, here you are.)
The moral of the story is DO bring a snack and a bottle of water to New York Fashion Week! Just in case.
Another tip: you'll take part in quite a bit of alcohol consumption during NYFW — a sip of champagne here, a glass of rosé there. You'll need to stay hydrated and may need the help of activated charcoal to get back in shape. Just trust me on this one! 😉
As we left Skylight there were so many paparazzi photographers just outside. To get their attention, you have to stand out from the crowd, which is quite hard to do because there are so many fashionistas around you.
So we used a little trick you may have heard of before: faking till you make it. We started taking pictures of each other, and the next thing you know everybody wanted to take our pictures and I am pretty sure I felt like Beyoncé! The best feeling EVER. 🙌
I have a favor to ask of you, gorgeous. If you come across my pictures in publications or online, please let me know!
So my first experience at New York Fashion Week was ah-mazing. I can't wait until February to go back! Should I go to Paris Fashion Week this time? Just a thought...
Oh! I almost forgot! Bring a power bank or two to fashion week with you. And don't leave them at home; the phone battery runs out very fast with all that filming and picture taking!
I hope you enjoyed my NYFW tips and advice. Read about how to get invited to the NYFW here and the last time I channeled my inner Beyoncé here. And as always, let me know if you have any questions in the comment section below.
P.S. I did DM Courtney later and explained how totally embarrassed I was about my lack of sleep, extreme hunger, and a pair of uncomfortable shoes, which put me into zombie mode. We had a good laugh about it. 😂
